Curiosity in Coaching: Think Like a Kitten

Curious energy in coaching is like a kitten exploring a sunbeam

Ever watched a kitten stumble upon something new? It’s adorable—and fascinating. That tiny furball’s whole world stops as it paws, sniffs, and investigates every corner. And honestly? Coaches could take a cue from that kind of wonder.

Because in coaching, curiosity isn’t just about asking questions—it’s about sparking awareness, creating movement, and inviting clients into a space of discovery.

And no, I’m not saying you should start chasing laser pointers or getting stuck in boxes (though let’s be real—that is a metaphor for some life choices). What I am saying is this: curiosity isn’t just a nice-to-have. It’s essential.

The right kind of curiosity doesn’t just make clients open up—it helps them connect the dots in ways they haven’t before. It shifts perspective, unlocks insight, and propels them toward real transformation.

But here’s the twist: curiosity, when done wrong, can backfire. It can feel like an interrogation, put clients on the defensive, or shut the conversation down completely.

So how do we use curiosity to guide, not grill? How do we ask questions that ignite awareness—not just gather information?

Curious? Let’s dig in. 🕵️‍♀️
